Davide Cantone, 34, a prisoner in Benevento, will be tried with immediate effect for the fire at an Acer apartment and other serious related crimes.
The preliminary investigations judge of the Benevento Court ordered this, deeming the evidence gathered by the Prosecutor's Office "clear."
The fire of November 5th in Via Bonazzi
According to the prosecution, the man set fire to the apartment on Via Bonazzi on November 5, 2025. According to the investigation, the apartment was occupied illegally, and the flames completely destroyed furnishings and systems, also causing structural damage.
The fire, which started in the bedroom, then spread to the walls, the balcony, and the apartment above, which was declared uninhabitable.
Weapons in the house and the hypothesis of receiving stolen goods
During the investigation, the Carabinieri reportedly found illegally held weapons and ammunition in the home: an unserialized flare gun, a hunting rifle, and 44 rounds of ammunition of various calibers. Cantone is also charged with receiving stolen goods: the rifle, it emerged, had been stolen in a previous home burglary.
The investigations and the decision of the investigating judge
The investigation was based, among other things, on arrests in flagrante delicto, seizures, firefighter findings, ballistics reports, witness statements, and technical findings. These factors led the investigating judge to order an immediate trial, skipping the preliminary hearing.
The process
The first hearing is scheduled for March 24, 2026, before the Benevento Court. The defendant is represented by Michele Ciruolo.
