Carabinieri officers from the Pompei station, led by Marshal Esposito, conducted security checks with metal detectors outside the Pascal High School this morning. The operation is part of the preventive measures already planned throughout the province, which were intensified following the tragic incident in La Spezia where a student was stabbed to death.
The school's response
"The school board, in its various components—parents, students, teaching staff, and ATA—thanks the Carabinieri for their routine checks to ensure safe access to the school," said headmistress Filomena Zamboli.
The principal, along with school board president Ciro D'Apice, emphasized how the initiative was welcomed by the school community.
The operation took place during Student Leadership Week and was interpreted as "an expression of great sensitivity and of the interinstitutional network that views school as a place of education, growth, and safety at the heart of the local context."
Fake news about a false stabbing exposed
A significant incident accompanied the checks: a student had spread among his classmates a false report of an alleged stabbing of a student inside the school, claiming that the Carabinieri had intervened because of this. This was a clear example of misinformation fueled by social media, capable of spreading false information that had a strong alarmist impact on the school community.
The Carabinieri operation is part of a broader plan to prevent violence in schools in the province of Naples, strengthened following recent news stories involving students in several Italian cities.
