Avellino – A morning of ordinary madness turned into an arrest thanks to the victim's quick thinking and the cunning of law enforcement. In Ariano Irpino, a 50-year-old man from the province of Foggia was arrested on charges of mistreatment after ambushing his ex-wife.
The assault and the death threats
The violence erupted when the man, unreconciled by the end of the relationship, decided to break into the woman's home. After breaking a window, the 50-year-old attacked the victim: first with death threats, then with physical assault. In those moments of extreme terror, the woman managed to maintain the composure necessary to raise the alarm, calling 112 and allowing the Carabinieri of the Ariano Irpino Company to intervene promptly.
The Carabinieri's trap: the "fake package"
To prevent the situation from escalating further within the home, the officers deployed an original ploy. Posing as delivery workers, they contacted the couple under the pretext of urgently needing to deliver a package to the train station.
The ruse worked: convinced he needed to collect the goods, the man accompanied his ex-wife to the meeting place, where, however, he found no courier waiting for him, but the Carabinieri ready to stop him.
After being arrested, the attacker was brought before the authorities. By order of the investigating judge of the Benevento Court, the 50-year-old was placed under house arrest. To protect the victim, the judge also imposed an electronic bracelet to monitor the man's every movement and prevent further contact.
