There were moments of fear last night in the center of Arzano, where some residents witnessed debris falling from the historic Clock Tower in Piazza Cimmino.

The local police were immediately notified: debris was falling from the tower, endangering the safety of people passing by.

Intervention to delimit the area was immediate

Municipal police officers responded to the scene and promptly cordoned off the surrounding area to prevent access. Firefighters then arrived to assist, and after an inspection, they proceeded to "pick" and remove the portion of the structure showing obvious signs of collapse, eliminating the immediate danger.

The historical value of the monument and the challenge of restoration

The Clock Tower, which dominates Piazza Cimmino, is a symbol for the Arzano community. Dating back to 1847, it houses a historic clock installed by King Ferdinand II of Bourbon. Last night's incident has brought the building's state of preservation back into the spotlight.

Now the ball is in the city council's court, which is tasked with finding the resources necessary for a conservative restoration that will preserve this important piece of the city's history and ensure its safety.
