Naples – Over two centuries of prison: this is the total of the sentences handed down by Naples investigating judge Michaela Sapio to 22 defendants believed to be linked to the rival Camorra gangs "Ferretti" and "Cipolletta," active in the Pomigliano d'Arco area.

At the end of the closing speech in December, the Naples Prosecutor's Office (PM Henry John Woodcock) had requested a total of 306 years of imprisonment.

The judge also imposed total fines of over 104 euros and acquitted five defendants of certain charges.

The context of the investigation

The investigation stems from the raid on February 25, 2025, when the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of the Castello di Cisterna Group executed precautionary measures (23 in prison and 4 under house arrest) at the request of the DDA.

According to the prosecution, the crimes charged—aggravated by mafia methods—range from mafia-style association to extortion, as well as weapons, arson, attempted murder, drugs, robbery, loan sharking, and kidnapping.

Statements in the courtroom

During the trial, Salvatore Ferretti, a collaborator with justice, gave spontaneous statements and was sentenced to 11 years, 6 months, and 20 days in prison. The investigating judge also acquitted five defendants of some of the charges brought by investigators.

This article discusses a very serious and complicated topic, but it seems to me that the numbers are quite confusing. Crimes like extortion and robbery are serious, and sentences are high. I only hope that justice is served.
