NAPLES – A quiet visit, away from the spotlight, but full of meaning. The Archbishop of Naples, Cardinal Domenico Battaglia, visited Monaldi Hospital, in the city's hilly area, where the child who underwent a damaged heart transplant is being treated.
The prelate met with the child's mother, Patrizia Mercolino, in a meeting described by Curia sources as private. It was a moment of listening and closeness, intended to express support for the family at this particularly delicate time.
At the end of the meeting, the cardinal stopped outside the ward where the child is being cared for by doctors, and prayed. A discreet gesture, intended to accompany with spirituality an event that has profoundly shaken public opinion in recent weeks.
