Naples – Giovanni Beneduce, who was arrested last Wednesday at around 10:00 a.m. by officers from the San Giovanni Barra police station, has already been released from prison. The young man from Barra, represented by lawyer Giuseppe Milazzo, had his arrest confirmed yesterday morning.

But the preliminary investigations judge, accepting the defense's requests, ordered house arrest (without a bracelet) instead of prison.

The 26-year-old was arrested two days ago while he was sitting inside a Citroen C3 on Via Suor Maria della Passione, a street symbolic of the hermanitos of Barra, a group of young men between twenty and thirty years old, at war with the old gangs, now known for being particularly violent and unscrupulous, just like the South American gangs.

The kidnapping in the car

The police, after noticing the boy near a van that had been robbed that morning in Ponticelli, proceeded to search the car, finding 160 grams of cocaine, six 9 x 21 GFL-brand bullets, and a large amount of cash.

The substance was most likely destined for some clandestine laboratory to be mixed and released onto the market through neighborhood drug dealing centers. The bullets were intended to serve other gang members as defense against enemy incursions, at a time when tensions are high both with neighboring neighborhoods and with the old Camorra families.

Counterfeit banknotes at home

At Beneduce's home, on the same street, 21 counterfeit 50-euro bills were also found. Investigators aren't ruling out the possibility that they may have been stolen from a local fence for extortion.
Meanwhile, the suspect remains awaiting trial at his home, while investigators conduct a lengthy and thorough investigation.

The situation is truly complex and highlights the drug problem in our region. It's important that authorities take stricter measures to combat these phenomena, but at the same time, we must also help young people find alternatives.
