A meeting convened by the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, took place this afternoon at the Prefecture to address the Harmont & Blaine dispute. The meeting focused on the state of labor unrest declared by the unions following the initiation of the collective dismissal procedure for 32 employees working at the Caivano plant.
All the actors in comparison
The meeting was attended by the mayor of Caivano, representatives of the Campania Region's Department of Labor, the general manager of Harmont & Blaine with delegates from the Industrial Union, and a large number of trade union representatives: CGIL, CISL, and FISI, along with their respective trade union secretaries.
The company's reasons
During the meeting, management explained the reasons behind the decision to initiate the collective dismissal process, which were attributed to "structural reasons." While not delving into the financial and production details, the company confirmed the difficulty in maintaining employment levels.
The mobilization of the unions
Strengthened by the workers' mobilization, representatives of CGIL, CISL, and FISI reiterated their call to withdraw the procedure and engage in intense discussions to avert the cuts. The dispute takes on particular significance in the Caivano area, a region already affected by other industrial crises.
The meeting concluded with a methodological agreement: all parties committed to exploring possible solutions to preserve employment. The need to continue the discussions was agreed upon, and for this reason, the meeting was adjourned until Monday, February 16th.
