Maddaloni – Thelma's unerring nose, the splendid specimen from the Sarno Carabinieri Canine Unit, left her target no escape. This morning, she led the soldiers of the Maddaloni Company straight to the drug hideout.
The operation ended with the arrest of a 34-year-old local man, caught with a stash of hashish ready to be placed on the retail market.
The raid in the heart of Maddaloni
The operation was carried out as part of a service coordinated by the Maddaloni Company's Operational Unit, which was monitoring drug dealing hotspots in the city.
The officers, supported by canine units, focused their attention on a home in the center. It was Thelma's persistent tip-off that confirmed the investigators' suspicions, allowing them to conduct an extremely thorough house search.
Drugs and cash in the bedroom
The search yielded a positive result when the Carabinieri searched the man's bedroom. Inside a cleverly hidden bedside table, they found approximately 36 grams of hashish.
Along with the narcotics, the officers seized a precision scale and all the equipment needed to package the doses, a clear sign of a structured drug dealing operation. Also seized was €150 in cash, almost certainly the proceeds of the latest sales, given the small denomination bills.
The 34-year-old, a man already known to law enforcement for specific criminal records, was immediately arrested and charged with possession of narcotics with intent to distribute. After being photographed and undergoing the usual formalities at the police station, he was transferred to his home under house arrest, as ordered by the judicial authorities pending the summary hearing.
