Naples – In recent hours, the possibility of an available organ has been resurfacing in the case, but definitive confirmation depends on the outcome of discussions with doctors and ongoing clinical evaluations. A new heart is available, but it's unclear whether it's compatible. This was learned from hospital sources.
The summons and the wait outside
The summons was announced on TV during "È sempre Cartabianca," while the woman was expected to be a guest on the show. Mercolino's arrival at Monaldi was confirmed by the family's lawyer, Francesco Petruzzi, who met her outside the hospital to receive updates following the meeting with the medical director and the team.
The clinical picture: life support and re-evaluation
The child, approximately two years old, is hospitalized in critical condition and is being kept alive with life-saving devices following the failed transplant on December 23rd. In recent days, Monaldi convened the Heart Team and performed further tests (including a CT scan) to assess the progress of the condition and the possibility of a second transplant.
Why compatibility is crucial
Even when the possibility of an organ emerges, the procedure remains tied to stringent criteria: in pediatric transplants, compatibility, weight and size of the organ are important, as well as the stability of the child's other organs.
This is one of the reasons why timing can be unpredictable and why, until the final consultation with the doctors and the final checks are completed, each scenario remains conditioned by clinical outcomes and protocols.
The context: investigations and tension with the hospital
An ongoing investigation into the December 23 transplant is underway, with six suspects suspected of compromising the transplanted organ. Given this climate, the family has also requested external evaluations and a second opinion, stressing the need to clearly reconstruct the chain of decisions and communications that led to the outcome of the operation.

This situation is very complicated and makes one reflect on how difficult it is to find a compatible organ. I hope the doctors can do the best for the child and that there is news soon. Health is a serious matter.
