Naples – The two-year-and-four-month-old boy admitted to Naples' Monaldi Hospital after a transplant performed on December 23, 2025, on a damaged organ remains on the list for a possible new heart transplant, both in Italy and abroad.
The family's lawyer, Francesco Petruzzi, reported this, according to which the management of Monaldi Hospital had communicated a negative opinion from Bambino Gesù regarding the child's suitability for transplantation.
This opinion, however, does not coincide with that of the doctor who performed the surgery at Monaldi, who is convinced that the child is still transplantable. "At least until Monday, the child will remain on the transplant list, after which there will be an update," explains the lawyer, who in recent days has requested a third-party opinion on the possibility of a second transplant approximately fifty days after the previous one.
The note from the Colli Hospital Trust
In a statement, the Colli Hospital (which owns Monaldi) clarified that no official statements on the patient's clinical conditions were made today.
The company itself emphasizes that the child is considered transplantable because he was placed on the list "in the opinion of the team dealing with the matter" and that he would never have been removed from the list, "except briefly in the past."
Regarding the clinical picture, the note speaks of "very serious but stable" conditions.
Schillaci: "We'll clarify things."
Health Minister Orazio Schillaci also weighed in on the matter: "Of course we will clarify the situation," he declared in Rome, on the sidelines of the national leadership of the Brothers of Italy party.
Roberto Fico: "I have activated the highest level of inspection powers."
"I won't go into the medical issue, but the entire Regional Council and the Campania Region express their condolences to the family and the little boy affected by this very painful and terrible event." This was stated by Roberto Fico, President of the Campania Region, on the sidelines of the Democratic Party's event in Naples.
"As you know," Fico said, "I have activated the highest level of inspection and investigation powers vested in the Campania Region. I have officially written to the Directorate General for Health, which has immediately implemented everything within its power. I am therefore awaiting the results of everything they will recover by requesting it from Monaldi."
