Naples – Carabinieri officers from the Chiaia station have executed a house arrest warrant issued by the preliminary investigations judge of the Naples Court on behalf of the Prosecutor's Office. The order concerns a forty-year-old Neapolitan man already known to law enforcement.

The "fake policeman" scam

According to investigators' findings, the man is seriously suspected of attempted aggravated fraud, committed last May against an elderly woman living in the Chiaia neighborhood. The suspect allegedly used the "fake policeman" technique: he showed up at the victim's home under the pretext of carrying out checks, attempting to steal money and valuables, and even attempting to open the safe.

Investigations and findings

The investigation, conducted by the Chiaia Station officers and coordinated by the Naples Prosecutor's Office, would have allowed them to document the forty-year-old's involvement. Footage from local security cameras and data from license plate readers installed in the area would also have been useful in supporting the investigation.

It's a very strange and disturbing situation that's happening in our neighborhoods. People need to be careful of these fake policemen. You never know who the person ringing the doorbell might be. You need to be careful and always report it.
