Violence continues in the wards of a Neapolitan hospital. Yesterday morning, at the Medicine Unit of Villa Betania Hospital, a group of people from the same family stormed the ward, verbally and physically assaulting healthcare workers and professionals on duty. The incident created moments of high tension, slowing down regular care and requiring police intervention to bring the situation under control.
The incident was formally reported by the Provincial Coordinator of the Private Healthcare Sector of CISL FP Naples, Ciro Maraniello, and the Company Secretary of the CISL FP Naples RSA, Francesco Di Paola, who sent a letter to the hospital management to draw attention to the need to protect staff and ensure adequate safety conditions within the healthcare facility. For the union, this is yet another incident that confirms an escalation of attacks against those who work daily with patients and their families, in an environment already complicated by workloads and organizational challenges.
Ciro Buonajuto, leader of the Casa Riformista (Italia Viva – Noi di Centro) group in the Regional Council, also spoke out on the matter, expressing solidarity with the workers involved and calling for immediate action. "I express my complete sympathy and solidarity with the professionals attacked while carrying out their work. Adequate, effective, and urgent measures are needed to prevent further incidents of violence in hospitals, effectively protecting healthcare workers as they carry out their care duties," he stated.
The councilor then emphasized the gravity of the situation on both a human and professional level. "It is unacceptable that healthcare workers are exposed to constant risks to their physical and psychological safety. This situation is completely incompatible with both the essential levels of care in healthcare settings and the respect for professional dignity that must be guaranteed to those who work daily to protect the health of citizens," he added, also sounding the alarm about possible future consequences. "At this rate, fewer and fewer people will be willing to work in these fields, with serious consequences for the entire regional healthcare sector."
Buonajuto then called for those responsible to be identified and for security measures to be strengthened in hospitals. "I hope that the perpetrators of this latest act of violence will be identified and will not go unpunished for their actions. I hope that no further time is wasted and that all possible resources will be deployed to ensure full security within our hospitals, including through the deployment of police forces. Meanwhile, all politicians must work to ensure that healthcare facilities once again become protected spaces for patients and staff," he concluded.
