Naples – The Heart Team's verdict is awaited on the tests performed yesterday on the two-year-old boy who underwent a heart transplant, which later proved damaged. The doctors' decision will be crucial in determining whether the child will remain on the transplant waiting list for another transplant.
"We're waiting for the Heart Team to make a decision this morning on the findings to confirm whether he can be kept on the waiting list," explains Francesco Petruzzi, the family's lawyer.
Filing of the consultancy report at the Public Prosecutor's Office
This morning, the lawyer will go to the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office to submit the report prepared by the specialists at Bambino Gesù Hospital in Rome. The document will officially be included in the investigation into the transplant case at Monaldi Hospital.
"I'll go to the prosecutor to see if there are any developments in the investigation and whether he intends to appoint a panel for the preliminary investigation, as requested," Petruzzi specifies. This step could crystallize the technical elements needed to clarify any liability.
Clash of expert opinions, a "third opinion" requested
Meanwhile, the medical issue remains unresolved. The assessments of Bambino Gesù and Monaldi appear to diverge on some crucial aspects. For this reason, the family has decided to seek a further independent opinion.
"We have requested a third opinion from major European centers specializing in retransplantation and long-term ECMO," the lawyer explains, "from London to Paris, Berlin, and Utrecht. The goal is to disentangle the two clear positions that have emerged so far and understand whether further therapeutic options exist."
Investigations and hope
While the Prosecutor's Office continues its investigations to reconstruct the entire clinical and organizational chain of the transplant, the priority remains the young patient's condition. Confirmation of his continued placement on the waiting list would represent a crucial step in the race against time for another lifesaving operation.
