Naples – The construction alarm at the prestigious Antonio Genovesi High School in Piazza del Gesù continues. Following reports last week of panels falling from the ceilings, this morning's heavy rains have further exacerbated the situation, turning the school into a full-blown emergency.

According to the official statement from the school administration, upon opening the building, "a plumbing problem arose due to a blocked drain." This was promptly addressed, with the premises secured and the alleged absence of any risk to the safety of the students. This version of events, however, is contradicted by images and testimonies that paint a very different picture.

Widespread flooding was reported between the second and third floors, with damaged pipes, an elevator out of order, power outages, and ceiling panels completely soaked with water. Students were reportedly forced to wait for over an hour in the rain before being allowed to enter, despite the fact that the rooms were still wet and there were potential risks associated with the electrical system.

"We're facing a situation that needs to be investigated further," says Green-Left MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, who has received dozens of reports. "Last week, we were assured that a liquid sheath would solve everything. Today, we find ourselves with floors flooded with water, an elevator stopped working, and no power. We can't just dismiss this as a routine incident."

Borrelli adds: "If there truly is no danger, the Metropolitan City's technicians should immediately certify it with a thorough structural and electrical inspection. Student safety must be based on rigorous and transparent controls. Let's not wait for a short circuit or a collapse to cause irreparable consequences."

The political demand is clear: an urgent inspection, a public technical report, and immediate structural interventions to guarantee the right to education in truly safe conditions.

The situation at the high school is truly worrying, and I don't understand why action isn't being taken immediately. The photos circulating on social media show a reality far different from the official one. Students deserve a safe environment in which to study.
