Fruit and vegetables sold without permits, stalls displayed without protection, and hygiene and sanitation irregularities. These are the findings of checks carried out by the Naples Local Police, in collaboration with staff from the Naples Central Health Authority (ASL Napoli 1 Centro), in the Secondigliano, Arenella, and Vomero neighborhoods. The investigations were triggered in part by reports from residents and led to the seizure of approximately 240 kilos of fruit and vegetables, in addition to the imposition of administrative fines amounting to thousands of euros.
In Secondigliano, officers from the Territorial Operations Unit identified a street vendor without the necessary permits to operate the business or to occupy public land. During the inspection, they discovered that some of the food was displayed without adequate protection from the elements, in violation of health and hygiene regulations. The owner was issued administrative fines, the immediate cessation of the illegal business, and the seizure of forty boxes of fruit and vegetables, equivalent to approximately 75 kilograms of merchandise, along with the equipment used for the sale.
Between Arenella and Vomero, checks focused on several neighborhood businesses. On Via Giulio Palermo and Largo dei Cangiani, unauthorized occupation of public land, lack of permits required for outdoor display, and several irregularities related to proper food storage were discovered. In one of the stores, local health authority staff found particularly serious hygiene violations, requiring the temporary suspension of business.
The seized goods, deemed unfit for sale, were subsequently donated to the city zoo. The operation is part of a targeted control plan to protect food safety and combat irregular commercial activities, with a particular focus on consumer health and compliance by industry operators.
