Naples – A machete with a half-meter blade, cleverly hidden in a false bottom, thousands of medical pills, and a shipment of potentially infectious plant products. These are the findings of the latest inspection at Capodichino International Airport, where financial police from the local airline, together with officials from the Customs Agency (ADM), intercepted a dangerous illegal shipment during routine passenger screening operations.
The bladed weapon in the checked baggage
The protagonist of the case is a Ghanaian citizen, recently landed in Naples from his home country. During a baggage inspection, officers focused on a checked suitcase that exhibited structural anomalies. Inside a cleverly constructed false bottom, they discovered a machete with a 50-centimeter blade.
The weapon, considered an extremely dangerous object capable of causing harm, was immediately seized and the man was reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office for illegal possession of a weapon.
The cargo of “prohibited” drugs and vegetables
In addition to the weapon, the checks uncovered a veritable illegal shipment of medical and agricultural products. Over 2.000 medicine tablets were found, transported without a prescription or distribution authorization, in violation of strict national and EU regulations on the marketing of pharmaceuticals.
To complete the picture, the agents seized 80 kg of plant products without the necessary phytosanitary certification, materials that pose a serious risk to domestic crops due to the possible introduction of exotic pests or diseases.
The referral to the Prosecutor's Office
The operation, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Naples, is part of the prevention of illicit trafficking at airports. The passenger was charged at liberty: he will be held accountable not only for possession of the weapon, but also for serious administrative and criminal violations related to health and phytosanitary safety. The entire shipment was seized for subsequent analysis and destruction.

This article is very interesting, but I don't understand how a Ghanaian citizen can carry a machete and pills without prescriptions. The authorities should be more vigilant in their checks for everyone's safety.
