Naples – A bloody afternoon unfolded in Porta Capuana, where a man was stabbed in the street by two fellow Italians, sustaining serious injuries. The incident unfolded before the eyes of passersby, in one of the city's historic and busiest areas, which suddenly transformed into a scene of violence.
The courage of passers-by and the intervention of the Carabinieri
Even more tragic consequences were prevented by the prompt intervention of several residents. "They didn't turn away," said a witness who reported the incident to MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, "but rushed to stop the attack."
A total of 18 Carabinieri officers responded to the scene and managed to subdue the two attackers. The victim, suffering from severe bleeding injuries, was rushed to the hospital.
The complaint: "Unacceptable violence despite the red zone"
Francesco Emilio Borrelli, MP for the Green Left Alliance, took a very strong stance. "What happened at Porta Capuana is unacceptable. Despite the establishment of the red zone, we continue to witness episodes of extreme violence, with people being stabbed in the middle of the street, before the eyes of citizens."
"Wild West scenes, we need certain punishments"
"These Wild West scenes," Borrelli added, "cannot become normal. We need constant surveillance, a permanent law enforcement presence, targeted interventions, and, above all, clear penalties for those who commit these crimes. Those who sow terror and violence cannot roam freely in our cities."

It's incredible that such serious incidents can happen in an area that should be safer. I hope the authorities take tougher measures against violence. People shouldn't feel unsafe walking down the street.
