What was supposed to be a business meeting to finalize a gold deal turned into a stabbing in the heart of Livorno. It happened on the afternoon of February 26th, shortly before 5:00 PM, inside a business office temporarily rented by the two men involved in the deal on Via Grande, in the heart of Livorno.

Francesco Lassi, 58, a well-known salesman in Pistoia, was killed after being stabbed several times during a violent altercation. He was reportedly attacked by Luigi Ammirante, a former justice collaborator from Naples, who was arrested a few hours later by police.

According to an initial investigative reconstruction, the two had rented a room in the professional office to discuss the sale of valuables. For reasons still under investigation, the negotiation quickly escalated into a physical altercation.

The stabbings in front of a witness

Further clarifying the investigative picture was the presence of an eyewitness, who reportedly witnessed the scene and provided investigators with crucial evidence. The man was interviewed at length by Deputy Prosecutor Nicola Volpe, who is in charge of the open homicide case.

According to what emerged in the first hours after the crime, the attack took place inside the professional office, which transformed into a crime scene within minutes. All attempts to help Lassi were unsuccessful, as he died from deep stab wounds.

The escape and the arrest after two hours

Immediately after the murder, Ammirante attempted to disappear, fleeing the area. His escape, however, was short-lived. The Flying Squad immediately began a search, narrowing the search thanks in part to information gathered on the scene.

Within about two hours, the former informer was tracked down and arrested in the city, where his wife lives. He allegedly claimed to have defended himself during the argument before investigators.

The murderer's criminal past and the victim's profile

Luigi Ammirante is no stranger to investigative circles. A former justice collaborator, he is said to have a history of drug trafficking between Terzigno, San Giuseppe Vesuviano, and Torre Annunziata, areas historically marked by the presence of organized crime.

The victim's profile was different. Francesco Lassi was best known in local business and political circles: in 2022, he ran for the local elections with the Five Star Movement, but failed to win.

Investigators are now carefully reconstructing the relationship between the two men, and especially the financial implications of the gold deal that sparked the violence. They are not ruling out any possibility, including a disagreement over money.
