Naples — The National Democratic Party is maintaining a cautious stance on the upcoming municipal elections in Salerno and is deferring any decisions to the local level. "The Campania regional party is handling the elections in Salerno," clarified Democratic Party Secretary Elly Schlein on the sidelines of the Democratic Party initiative "Italy Cultivates Knowledge," currently underway in Naples.
The De Luca case and tensions within the coalition
At the center of the political debate remains the possible candidacy for mayor of Campania Regional President Vincenzo De Luca, a possibility opposed by his allies, the Five Star Movement and the Alliance of the Greens and the Left. This represents a delicate transition for the balance of power within the progressive camp in Campania, fresh from their recent regional victory.
«Relationship with allies is a priority»
Schlein stressed the need to preserve the coalition's unity: "We are carefully monitoring the path forward, always placing great importance on the relationship with our allies, with whom we recently won the regional elections."
A call for shared management of candidacies in large cities, starting with Salerno, where the center-left aims to confirm the leadership of the municipality without undermining the regional political axis.

Yes, indeed, it's strange that the Democratic Party isn't taking responsibility, especially now that there are tensions with its allies. The situation seems complicated and could negatively impact the upcoming elections.
It's interesting to see how the Democratic Party has chosen not to take a clear stance on the Salerno municipal elections. This could create confusion among voters, who aren't sure what to expect.
