Salerno – The San Giovanni di Dio and Ruggi d'Aragona University Hospital has confirmed the presence of several cases of scabies within the facility. Management has issued an official statement reassuring the public about the timely measures adopted and the ongoing control of the epidemiological situation.

Eight confirmed infections in three departments

The updated toll shows eight infected people: three hospitalized patients and five healthcare workers (OSS). The three patients are distributed across three different departments, with one case recorded in the Cardiology department and the other two in operating units located outside the main tower.

Regarding healthcare personnel, all five infected workers work within the Cardiology Tower.

Patient zero and the chain of contagion

According to initial reports, the infection originated from a patient zero, likely hospitalized in the Cardiology unit, from which the infection then spread to healthcare workers. The affected workers were immediately placed under home surveillance and given specific treatment, as required by healthcare protocols.

Scabies, in fact, does not require hospitalization and can be effectively treated at home.

Emergency protocol activated

Hospital management assured that all control measures required by epidemiological protocols were immediately implemented. Notifications were sent to the local health authorities within the legal deadlines.

At the same time, internal procedures for the correct isolation of patients were distributed to the coordinators, who promptly implemented them in all involved departments.

Extraordinary sanitization of the environments

Extraordinary deep sanitization operations have been initiated on all affected areas, surfaces, and furnishings in the three affected departments. The situation is being constantly monitored by the Medical Directorate in collaboration with the Health Surveillance and Prevention and Protection Service.

The hospital reiterated that all necessary measures to contain the spread of the virus and ensure the safety of patients and staff have been adopted "with the utmost promptness and rigor."
