Sarno – Andrea Sirica, a 35-year-old arrested for the murder of baker Gaetano Russo, and his brother Daniele, already in prison, have been transferred to two different prisons in Campania.

The measure was triggered after the seizure of a cell phone smuggled into prison, which was used to take a photo in the cell and shared on social media.

Quick transfer from Fuorni

The two brothers left Fuorni Prison in Salerno this morning, February 10th. The day before, a search by the Penitentiary Police had led to the discovery of their phones. An internal investigation has been opened to determine how the device entered the prison and how the image ended up online.

The crime in the Sarno delicatessen

Andrea Sirica is accused of the voluntary homicide of Gaetano Russo, killed on the night between February 2nd and 3rd in his delicatessen-bakery in Sarno.

According to investigators, Sirica showed up at the shop during business hours, argued with the shopkeeper, and attacked him with multiple stabs, resulting in his death. He was stopped shortly after by the police and ended up in Fuorni, where his brother Daniele was already located.

The shocking photo that sparks controversy

The image, depicting the two brothers in a cell, sparked widespread outrage, especially among the victim's family. After expediting checks, the prison administration decided to separate them to prevent further incidents.

The union: "From prison spectacle to sadism"

"To the 'prison spectacle' of TikTok videos has been added the 'prison of sadism,' where victims' families are mocked." Aldo Di Giacomo, secretary of the Penitentiary Police Union, visited Fuorni today and denounced the illicit use of smartphones: from inmates singing to live broadcasts, to rap videos. "We have long denounced this degrading do-goodism that humiliates victims and the state."

Today: "Punitive detention, not a family vacation"

Regional Councilor Sebastiano Odierna announces immediate investigations: "Who took the photo? How did the phone get in? A killer doesn't deserve to live with his brother. I demand maximum severity for an exemplary detention, not a comfortable stay that offends justice."

It's incredible how a cell phone could have entered a prison, yet it seems the security measures weren't sufficient. The situation is truly worrying and raises questions about how inmates are treated.
