According to residents' complaints, a large amount of polluted water is continuously discharged into Lago Patria via a pumping station operated by the Ente Autonomo Volturno. This constant influx contributes to overflowing the basin, causing untreated water to be discharged directly into the sea and further exacerbating an already severely compromised environmental situation.
Coastal erosion and beach loss
According to residents, the continued opening of the lake mouth, necessary to prevent the lake from flooding, is also causing serious coastal erosion. Along the Domitian coast, there is a progressive loss of sand and the retreat of nearby beaches, with direct impacts on tourism and bathing.

"We're talking about an extremely worrying situation that we've been denouncing for years. It's necessary to shed full light on the discharges into the lake, verify the water quality, and determine any responsibilities. We cannot allow such a delicate ecosystem to be further compromised and for the sea to continue to be used as a final destination for polluted water," said Avs MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli.
We have asked ARPAC to conduct in-depth analyses and immediate inspections not only at the river mouth, but also in the canals and at the pumping station, to verify the nature of the emissions and the presence of any polluting discharges. The risk of an environmental disaster is real and cannot be ignored. Urgent interventions, constant monitoring, and definitive solutions are needed to protect the territory and the health of citizens.

Borrelli announced that he will continue to monitor the situation and collect reports from citizens, urging the relevant authorities to act promptly. The goal: to stop what is feared to be serious environmental damage to Lago Patria and the entire Domitian coastline.
