A routine nighttime patrol on the streets of Trentola Ducenta turned into an international police operation. Carabinieri officers from the local station, during a routine traffic check, ordered a 22-year-old man of Romanian origin, resident in the municipality of Agro Aversano, to stop. Although his face was already known to the police, it was a thorough search of the police databases that triggered the red alert.
The European mandate
Online checks revealed that the 22-year-old had a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) pending against him, issued on January 28 by Romanian judicial authorities.
The order was signed following a final conviction for serious crimes committed in his country of origin, specifically against persons and property. The international notification was intended specifically for the surrender of the offender between European Union member states.
Transfer to prison
Once his identity and the pending arrest were confirmed, the Carabinieri officers immediately arrested him. After completing the necessary formalities at the local barracks, the young man was transferred to the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison. His status is now being reviewed by the competent judicial authorities, which will manage the international judicial cooperation procedures for extradition and the execution of the sentence.

It's interesting to know how a traffic stop can become an international operation. I wonder if there are more cases like this and how the police will handle similar situations in the future. Cooperation is very important in these cases.
