Villa Literno – The alleged Camorra shadow that loomed over former Villa Literno mayor and regional councilor Enrico Fabozzi has been definitively wiped clean. The Court of Cassation has rejected the appeal of the Naples Attorney General's Office, ending a legal process that had lasted over a decade and a half.

The Mastrominico brothers, entrepreneurs, were also definitively acquitted. All were accused by the Naples Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA) of collusion with the Casalesi clan. Their defense was represented by lawyers Mario Griffo, Francesco Picca, and Umberto Del Basso De Caro.

The first act: the arrest of 2011

The case began way back in 2011, when Fabozzi—then a regional councilor—was arrested on charges of having made a secret pact with the Casalesi family to gain political and financial advantage. The investigation by the Naples Anti-Mafia Directorate paints a picture of external involvement in a mafia conspiracy, with the Mastrominico brothers acting as business intermediaries.

The first degree conviction and the first setbacks

In 2015, the Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere handed down the first blow: 10 years in prison for Fabozzi. But the trial didn't end there. In 2021, the Court of Appeal of Naples overturned the sentence with a full acquittal. The Supreme Court, however, did not validate the case: it quashed the decision and sent the case back to another section of the Naples Court for reconsideration.

The second acquittal and the final verdict

2025 marks the turning point. In March, the newly formed section of the Court of Appeals once again acquits Fabozzi and the Mastrominicos. The Attorney General's Office attempts a final appeal to the Supreme Court, but the Supreme Court rejects it outright. Today, February 6, 2026, the order closes the circle: all defendants are innocent.

It's incredible that a case that had been going on for so long ended like this. Justice is sometimes complicated and doesn't always manage to take its course properly. There have been too many mistakes, and I hope the situation improves now.
