Weather alert extended in Campania, but level reduced to yellow

The weather alert remains in effect in Campania until 6:00 PM on Sunday, February 15. The Regional Civil Protection Department, based on the assessments of the Functional Center, has decided to extend the monitoring measures, but with a reduced danger level in some areas.

From orange to yellow in zones 1 and 3

Specifically, the alert level has been lowered from orange to yellow for zones 1 (Campania Plain, Naples, Islands, Vesuvian area) and 3 (Sorrento-Amalfi Peninsula, Sarno Mountains, and Picentini Mountains). The move to yellow indicates a reduced but still present risk, with conditions that remain to be monitored.

Yellow also in other areas

The yellow alert remains in effect, with no change in level, for zones 2 (Upper Volturno and Matese), 5 (Tusciano and Upper Sele), 6 (Piana Sele and Upper Cilento), and 8 (Lower Cilento). Precipitation is expected to continue in these areas, albeit less intensely.

Even moderate showers and thunderstorms

The weather forecast indicates the possibility of isolated precipitation, including showers or thunderstorms, generally of moderate intensity. Weather conditions allow for sudden showers, especially during the more unstable hours of the day.

Hydraulic and hydrogeological risks

From the point of view of critical issues, the Civil Protection hypothesizes various scenarios, including:

Surface runoff and possible material transport phenomena in valley floors and undrained areas.

Flooding of basement and ground floor rooms, especially in areas with poor water drainage.

Water flow on roads, with backflow of wastewater systems, overflowing and involvement of the most depressed urban areas.

Rising water levels in watercourses, potentially causing flooding in nearby areas, even in the presence of local issues such as sewer culverts or narrowing.

Rockfalls and landslides are possible, linked to fragile hydrogeological conditions, even in the absence of rain, due to soil saturation.

It's a bit worrying that the weather warning remains in effect until Sunday; we hope conditions improve. However, even though the risk has been reduced, it's still best to pay attention to the forecast.
