The 33-year-old man arrested by State Police in Castel Volturno, in the Caserta area, is charged with attempted femicide after stabbing his ex-partner following an argument. The incident occurred yesterday evening in the Ischitella area, where officers responded to an ambulance call.
Upon arrival at the scene, the police found a 24-year-old woman, seriously injured by a stab wound, near a car stopped on the side of the road.
The woman who underwent surgery is not in danger of dying.
The victim was immediately transported to Pineta Grande Hospital in Castel Volturno and admitted with critical condition. She underwent emergency surgery, but her life is not in danger.
According to the investigation, the man allegedly struck the girl several times with a kitchen knife, following an argument over the end of their relationship, which the 33-year-old allegedly refused to accept.
The suicide attempt and the arrest
After the attack, the man allegedly stabbed himself in the sternum, likely in an attempt to take his own life. Treated by paramedics, he was then taken to the Castel Volturno police station, where he was arrested.
The man was then transferred to the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison, at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
Investigations and efforts against gender-based violence
The investigation was conducted by the Caserta Flying Squad and the Castel Volturno police station. In parallel with the enforcement efforts, the State Police is continuing its ongoing campaign "...This Is Not Love," aimed at preventing and combating gender-based violence.
In particular, the Police Commissioner's warning has proven to be an effective tool for protecting victims of stalking and domestic violence: according to data from the Department of Public Security, the province of Caserta has one of the lowest recidivism rates nationwide since the measure was adopted.
