Acerra– Fear erupted at dawn in St. Peter's Square, where a 72-year-old man was wounded by a gunshot. The shooting occurred shortly after 4:00 a.m. The elderly man, originally from Naples, was taken to the emergency room of the Villa dei Fiori clinic, where he was hospitalized for a thigh wound.
According to the account provided to investigators, the man was in the square when he was approached by two people riding a scooter, both with their faces covered. Without apparent warning, one of the two fired a gunshot, hitting him before fleeing.
The 72-year-old's condition is not life-threatening, and his life is not in danger. His version of events is now being examined by officers from the Acerra police station, who are conducting an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident and identify the perpetrators. The State Police is investigating the case.
