An alleged workplace attack, carried out in the corridors and utility rooms of a public healthcare facility, is the serious incident reported by a cleaner who has worked for about thirty years at the Policlinico Hospital in Naples, who says he was the victim of a violent attack during his shift.
According to what the man told the Carabinieri at the Marianella station in Naples, it wasn't a sudden act, but a premeditated act, triggered by his refusal to perform cleaning duties in a building that, he claimed, wasn't part of his regular duties. The worker allegedly considered this request to be abusive.
The report reconstructs a disturbing sequence of events. An employee with coordination duties accompanied the man to a basement room; there, according to her account, a warehouse worker signaled other people. At that point, the worker was dragged into a room and repeatedly kicked and punched by several individuals.
Rescued after the attack, the man was hospitalized with a head injury and severe elbow injuries. The latter injury required surgery and the application of a mechanical brace. In the complaint, the employee also states that he fears for his safety and maintains that he is aware of other incidents of violence that were never reported due to fear of retaliation.
Medical and photographic documentation was attached to the complaint, which was also forwarded to Francesco Emilio Borrelli, MP for the Green and Left Alliance. "If the allegations from the complaint are confirmed, we would be faced with extremely serious matters: an organized assault, which occurred in the workplace, within a public healthcare facility. It is unacceptable that a worker be punished with violence for refusing to submit to alleged abuse," the MP stated.
"I will demand immediate investigations and protection for the victim. No one should be forced into silence out of fear. Institutions have a duty to bring the truth to light and ensure safety and legality in the workplace, especially in hospitals," Borrelli added.
Law enforcement is currently investigating the incident, tasked with reconstructing roles and responsibilities in a case that, if confirmed, would pose serious risks to safety and the working environment within the healthcare facility.
