Ariano Irpino – An afternoon of bloodshed and violence unfolded inside the Ariano Irpino prison. What was supposed to be a routine day turned into a battle between inmates, culminating in the serious injury of a 41-year-old man from the province of Naples.

The assault and the rudimentary weapon

According to Emilio Fattorello, national councilor for the prison police union Osapp, the spark apparently ignited during a brawl involving several inmates. In the chaos of the scuffle, the 41-year-old was struck in the chest by a crude weapon, likely a homemade sharpened metal object.

Only the timely intervention of the Penitentiary Police officers allowed order to be restored within the section and the participants in the clash to be isolated, preventing the number of injuries from worsening further.

Race against time: prognosis guarded

The prisoner's condition immediately appeared critical. Emergency medical services, alerted by the emergency services, transported the man to the Frangipane-Bellizzi hospital in critical condition. Doctors at the Ariano hospital discovered a deep lung laceration that puts the patient's life at risk.

After initial emergency stabilization, paramedics arranged for the injured man to be transferred to a center of excellence specializing in emergency thoracic surgery. The man's prognosis remains guarded, while investigations continue to identify the perpetrators and reconstruct the exact circumstances of the incident.
