Carmela Caiazzo, a 44-year-old Neapolitan woman who had been missing since 2022, has ended her fugitive status in Castel Volturno. She was arrested this morning by the Carabinieri of the Naples Investigative Unit following a targeted investigation coordinated by the Attorney General's Office at the Naples Court of Appeal.
Carabinieri officers located the woman in the Caserta municipality, executing a detention order issued against her by the Naples judicial authorities. The 44-year-old will now serve a final sentence of four years, two months, and twenty-six days in prison, in addition to a five-year ban from holding public office.
The charges: theft of money during the guardianship of his brother
The measure is based on the crimes of embezzlement and failure to perform official duties, which the woman is accused of for acts committed over several years, between 2010 and 2015.
According to findings made during the investigation and confirmed in subsequent court proceedings, Caiazzo, appointed guardian of her brother by the competent guardianship judge, allegedly repeatedly embezzled sums of money by taking advantage of her fiduciary role. These conducts were deemed to be in violation of the obligations arising from the position and sufficient to result in definitive criminal liability.
The fugitive and the arrest in the Caserta area
After her sentence became final, the woman disappeared, disappearing from view in 2022. The Carabinieri's investigative efforts gradually narrowed the investigation until she was located in the Castel Volturno area, where she was arrested in the early hours of the morning.
Once the formalities were completed, the 44-year-old was taken to prison to be held by the judicial authorities to serve her sentence.

I partly agree, I read that the final sentence is four years and a five-year ban from holding public office. However, the question remains as to how it is possible that a guardian could take money from her own brother and no one noticed beforehand.
This is informative but also thought-provoking news. I read the article, and it appears the woman had been on the run since 2022, then found in Castel Volturno, and arrested after a targeted investigation. The situation appears complex because her role as guardian entailed responsibility, but the details of the incident are still unclear.
