First the shock, then the clarity of someone who understood that things could have been much worse. Emil Audero reflects on the incident he was involved in during Cremonese-Inter and shares his feelings in words that blend relief and bitterness. "First of all, I'm feeling pretty good," he says, "at least mentally, because thinking back on what happened, I realize the consequences could have been much more serious. But it's all very difficult to digest."

The goalkeeper also describes the physical after-effects that appeared after the game. "At the end of the match, once the adrenaline subsided, my neck stiffened. Now it's even worse because my ear hurts and my back is stiff too. I'll have tests done in the next few days to see if there's any problem, but hey... it could have been worse."

Then the memory of those seconds. "There were smoke bombs and firecrackers already during the warm-up, but these things happen and I didn't give them any thought. Everything seemed under control. I took a few steps and then that tremendous bang. A roar, as if someone had hit me in the ear with a hammer; I could barely hear. On my right leg, I saw a cut, my shorts were torn, and I felt a terrible burning sensation. If I hadn't moved, it could have really ended badly."

Audero also explains why he chose to stay on the pitch despite everything. "You understand the situation and you don't want it to end that way. Deep down, I didn't feel the will to quit. Suspending the game for an incident like that just didn't sit well with me. I knew I could do it." But the game, inside, had changed. "In the second half, I felt a sense of emptiness. The injury to my knee was hurting, but the problem was inside me. A deep sense of disappointment and a lack of desire to play. I was on the pitch, doing my job that I love to death. But meanwhile, my thoughts were wandering to the site of the explosion. A little further on, and who knows... my hand, my arm, or even worse. I thought: why am I on the pitch? Why am I playing? My head and thoughts were spinning. It was a terrible feeling."

Harsh words also for the person who threw the firecracker. "I'd like to ask him: why? What is your goal: to support your team or to cause trouble? Why did you decide to hurt others and yourself? Explain to me the meaning of all this..."

Finally, a word on the messages I've received from the Inter world. "I have an excellent relationship with the Inter club and players. Everyone, starting with the president, came to check on me. They were concerned. Bastoni is right. Football must convey values and has enormous power in that regard. Football is about fun, skill, quality, commitment, and passion. These are the principles we want and must convey. That's why what happened is unacceptable, especially at a delicate time like this. For the world, for the society we live in. Anyone who does things like this deserves to be punished. Severely."

Audero's story is very interesting, but there are some parts I don't quite understand. The situation was complicated, and the consequences could have been serious, but it seems to me that there's a bit of confusion in his thinking.
