They were discharging bus wash wastewater directly into the storm drains, without any treatment or authorization, just meters from the mouth of the Sabato River in the Calore River. The illegal activity was uncovered by members of the Torre del Greco Coast Guard, working under the coordination of the Naples Maritime Directorate as part of their efforts to combat environmental crimes.
Dirty water at risk of river flooding
The inspections confirmed that the wastewater produced by the garage's car wash ended up in the rainwater collection system outside the structure, near the watercourse.
This method, over time, could have seriously compromised the Sabato river ecosystem, a river that has been under scrutiny for years by Port Authority officers and judicial police officers, in execution of a mandate from the Benevento Public Prosecutor's Office for the constant monitoring of the hydrographic network of the Province of Sannita. The operations also make use of the Port Authority Corps' environmental remote sensing aerial platform.
Seizure and denunciation
The garage owner was reported to the Benevento Judicial Authority. The area designated for the car wash—approximately 75 square meters—was seized, along with the entire facility used for the illegal activity.
Non-stop checks on the territory
The efforts to combat environmental crimes will continue under the joint coordination of the Campania Maritime Directorate and the competent judiciary, with the aim of ensuring the protection of the river and marine environment of an area already exposed to significant pressure.

It's important to monitor these environmental violations, but I wonder how it's taken so many years to become aware of them. Greater attention is needed from the authorities and the public.
