Tempio Pausania – The investigation into the tragic disappearance of Giovanni Marchionni, the young skipper from Bacoli, found dead on August 8, 2025, aboard a yacht moored in the Marina di Portisco, just off the Costa Smeralda, is underway.

The Tempio Pausania Public Prosecutor's Office has placed the vessel's owner, Annalaura di Luggo, a managing director of the well-known Fiart Mare shipyard, under investigation for manslaughter.

The expertise: a fatal exhalation

The breakthrough in the investigation came following technical assessments conducted by the Prosecutor's Office's technical consultant, engineer Giuseppe Mangano. According to the latest inspection, the yacht's batteries were not properly positioned.

This structural failure would have triggered a lethal chemical reaction: the autopsy report and subsequent toxicological and histological tests confirmed that the twenty-one-year-old's death was caused by inhaling hydrogen sulfide. This extremely toxic gas would have been released from the battery compartment, saturating the environment in which the young man was located.

Summit at the Prosecutor's Office and contractual investigations

An important summit is scheduled for today at the Gallura judicial offices. In addition to the investigators, the meeting will include defense lawyers Sebastiano Giaquinto and Giampaolo Murrighile, and the Marchionni family lawyers Maurizio Capozzo and Gabriele Satta.

The meeting will focus not only on the technical aspects of the death, but also on Giovanni Marchionni's employment status. Investigators intend to shed full light on the young man's employment practices, as he was in Sardinia during the summer of 2025 for the tourist season.

The pain of the family

While the shipowner's defense prepares to present its case, the victim's family's lawyers have expressed moderate satisfaction with the progress of the proceedings: "We confidently await the conclusion of the investigation," declared lawyers Capozzo and Satta.

The community of Bacoli, still reeling from the loss of its young skipper, is closely following the unfolding story, which aims to clarify whether the tragedy could have been avoided with different maintenance or design of the onboard systems.
