Bergamo – An uncivilized and dangerous act occurred on Sunday, February 22, at the New Balance Arena. During the first half of the match between Atalanta and Napoli, a home team fan in the south stand threw a plastic cup containing beer at a Napoli player and members of the coaching staff who were walking along the sidelines, just below the stand.
The container did not hit anyone, but the act created a concrete risk to the safety of those present, including numerous children.
The flash identification
The security system, strengthened for the occasion, allowed for an immediate response. DIGOS agents and forensic personnel from the police headquarters analyzed images from the facility's video surveillance system.
Before the final whistle, the perpetrator had already been identified: a young man born in 2003, resident in the province of Bergamo, now under investigation for throwing dangerous materials.
Daspo and criminal consequences
The police commissioner issued a one-year DASPO preventive measure against the 21-year-old, pursuant to Article 6 bis, paragraph 1, of Law 401 of 1989. The measure, notified by the Anti-Crime Division, prohibits access to sports facilities during competitive events. Violations result in a prison sentence of one to three years and a fine of between €10 and €40.
