Naples – A major anti-drug operation hit the Secondigliano Penitentiary Center yesterday evening, with the seizure of a large hashish shipment intended for inmates and numerous illegally smuggled cell phones.
Extraordinary search: hashish hidden and cell phones intercepted
During a routine check to prevent illicit trafficking, prison officers thoroughly searched the prison facilities and spaces. The result: 18 blocks of hashish, cleverly hidden in various locations throughout the prison, weighing a total of 1,5 kilograms, ready to be distributed to the inmate population. Along with the drugs, 18 latest-generation smartphones were found and seized, prohibited devices often used to maintain contact with the outside world or organize illicit activities.
Understaffed professionals: praise from the OSAPP union
The intervention was carried out by the staff on duty, directly supported by the commandant and the director of the facility, who demonstrated a high level of professionalism and a sense of duty. OSAPP Campania regional secretary Vincenzo Palmieri emphasized the importance of the effort despite chronic staffing constraints: "Even with minimal staffing, prison officers ensure safety every day, a prerequisite for any re-educational treatment."
Request for commendations to the DAP and PRAP for ongoing operations
OSAPP announces that it will submit a formal proposal to the heads of the Department of Penitentiary Administration (DAP) and the Regional Penitentiary Authority (PRAP) for official recognition of the personnel involved. The request concerns not only this raid, but also numerous previous operations that blocked the entry of narcotics and cell phones into the penitentiary, one of the most critical in Italy for criminal infiltration from outside.
