A routine check in the early hours of the morning turned into a decisive operation. Shortly after 4:00 a.m. today, Carabinieri officers from the Capua Company's Mobile Radio Unit intercepted a man driving a Fiat Iveco Daily, parked in a commercial area on Via Ceraselle in Caianello.
The suspicious behavior of the driver, a 43-year-old resident of the province of Caserta, immediately alerted the police.
The driver's suspicious behavior
When questioned by the Carabinieri, the man offered evasive answers regarding the van's ownership. Immediate checks on the police databases revealed the truth: the vehicle had been reported stolen just a few days earlier, at the Carabinieri station in Santa Maria Capua Vetere. This clear confirmation led to the next action.
Following the investigation, the 43-year-old, already known to law enforcement, was reported at large to the Judicial Authority for the crime of receiving stolen goods. The van was seized and placed in judicial custody by an authorized company, pending its release.
The Judicial Authority has been informed of the operation. The Carabinieri are now continuing their investigation to reconstruct all the circumstances that led to the vehicle's theft and its subsequent use, further investigating the possibility of receiving stolen goods. This incident demonstrates the effectiveness of the constant surveillance of the area, even during the quietest hours of the night.

The article describes a check that uncovered a theft. It's important for the Carabinieri to be active even at night to prevent crime. But one wonders how a stolen vehicle can be circulated so easily.
