Caivano – Not just white powder and cash, but a veritable showcase of criminal engineering. What was supposed to be a routine anti-drug operation in the heart of Caivano turned, for the Carabinieri of the local station, into a disturbing discovery of illegal weapons, designed to kill and, above all, to evade detection.
The stakeout and the blitz
The operation began when the officers noticed the suspicious movements of a drug user. Following his trail, they reached the door of a 35-year-old man, a convicted felon already known to law enforcement, who was attempting to re-establish a drug dealing ring in the area. After arresting the buyer, the Carabinieri raided the apartment.
The search immediately confirmed their suspicions: 64 grams of cocaine and €675 in cash were found, believed to be the proceeds of the illegal activity. But it was inside a metal box stored in the bedroom closet that the officers made the most worrying discovery.
The invisible arsenal: plastic guns and killer pens
Hidden among the clothes was a set of "ghost" weapons. The most unusual piece was a homemade pistol made entirely of plastic: a faithful reproduction of a Glock, originally designed as a blank-firing gun but modified to be identical to the original and potentially capable of evading metal detectors.
Alongside plastic, lethal metal: the Carabinieri seized a "pen-gun." What appears to be a harmless piece of stationery actually conceals a trigger mechanism and a bullet chamber, capable of transforming a metal cylinder into a deadly short-range precision weapon.
Clandestine weapons and ballistic investigations
The seizure was completed by a revolver without a serial number or National Proof House markings – therefore a clandestine weapon in all respects – as well as 11 rounds of 9×21 caliber ammunition and 50 blank bullets.
The 35-year-old was arrested and taken to prison. Investigators are now focusing on the weapons: the evidence will be subjected to ballistic tests to determine whether they were recently used in ambushes or other violent incidents that have plagued the area north of Naples.

I agree with Lucia, it seems incredible that a plastic gun could be used for crimes. We need to think about how these things can happen and what measures need to be taken to improve security.
What's happening in Caivano is worrying; it's unbelievable that such dangerous weapons are floating around. Controls should be stricter, and law enforcement should intervene more frequently to prevent similar situations.
