Professional football is once again under the spotlight of the Parliamentary Anti-Mafia Commission. On Thursday, February 12, starting at 8:30 a.m., hearings will be held at Palazzo San Macuto, the seat of the parliamentary inquiry, with Aurelio De Laurentiis, president of Napoli, Urbano Cairo, president of Torino, and Umberto Marino, general manager of Atalanta.

The initiative is part of the committee's work on mafia infiltration of sporting events and the potential links between organized crime and football clubs. This area of investigation has gained increasing prominence in recent years, in light of judicial investigations and inquiries that have highlighted how the sports system, and football in particular, can become a target for criminal groups, both financially and in terms of controlling organized fan bases.

The hearings of the top management of three Serie A clubs represent a significant step in the Commission's fact-finding activity. The objective is to gain insights into the dynamics surrounding the management of sports clubs, their relationships with the local community, and the measures adopted to prevent potential external influences.

The article is interesting and highlights the serious problems in football, but sometimes I don't understand how the institutions can actually intervene. Will the hearings really be useful? I hope they make progress.
