Naples – 18 defendants from the Casoria clans affiliated with the Contini clan, who were involved in an internal feud between the "Cittadella" and "Stadera" clans, have been sentenced to 106 years in prison.

The internal war between the two factions of Casoria exploded in 2021, with a series of ambushes and reprisals. The triggering episode was the wounding of Joel Lucarelli (September 20, 2021), response to a previous attack against Gennaro DeStefano, called “'e fell 'e carn” (September 2, 2021).

Drug and arms trafficking

The investigation revealed a criminal system that sold drugs not only in Naples (Ponticelli, Secondigliano), but also in Avellino and in the prison of Salerno, where one of the suspects was detained. Insolvent debtors suffered threats and violence, while the group had a worrying arsenal.

The investigation revealed that the new generation of the Contini clan was divided between Mario's group Rosario DeMartino (“'o chiatt”) and that of the brothers Gioele and Antonio Lucarelli.

According to investigators, the attack on Gioele Lucarelli was linked to an internal split within the group of the "Steelyard”, with Lucarelli intending to create an autonomous organization for drug trafficking, sourcing from suppliers active between Scampia and Connolo.

The group, according to the prosecution, had also started its own drug dealing network operating between Casoria, Naples, Ponticelli, Secondigliano and Avellino, demonstrating an increasing availability of weapons and the intention to expand through clashes with other criminal organizations.

Today, before preliminary hearing judge Maria Rosaria Aufieri, the defendants who chose the summary trial procedure were tried for Camorra-type association, drug trafficking, illegal possession and carrying of weapons, and attempted murder.

The defendants' defense was represented by a team of lawyers including Leopoldo Perone, Luigi Pozziello, Luca Mottola, Domenico Dello Iacono, and Giuseppe Gallo (Gioele Lucarelli's defense attorney).
