Salerno – There are bonds that transcend logic and hardship. Such is the case of Diego, the inseparable four-legged companion of a homeless man, the protagonist of a story that moved the entire Agro Nocerino Sarnese area. A story of absolute devotion that almost turned tragic before its happy ending.

The desperate race after the siren

It all began in San Marzano sul Sarno, where Diego's owner suffered a broken femur. When emergency responders arrived, the dog refused to abandon the man. When the ambulance, sirens blaring, headed for the "Umberto I" hospital in Nocera Inferiore, Diego refused to give up: he began a grueling run, covering several kilometers to keep track of the ambulance.

The hospital raid and the disappearance

Once he reached the hospital, the dog attempted the impossible: crossing the threshold of the emergency room to reunite with his human friend. Only the intervention of the security staff managed to curb his rage. However, perhaps confused by the commotion and stress, Diego then suddenly disappeared, disappearing without a trace.

The mobilization and the recovery

The news, shared on social media by Gianna Senatore, president of the Nocerina Zoofila Association, sparked an immediate outpouring of solidarity among residents. For hours, fears swirled of a bitter end, until the "miracle" occurred: a volunteer tracked down the animal in Castellammare di Stabia, more than twenty kilometers from where he had disappeared.

Diego is currently safe at the Nocera Inferiore shelter. There, he'll receive all the care he needs while he waits for his owner to be released, ready for the long-awaited hug.
