Casal di Principe – Another serious episode of gender-based violence has rocked the province of Caserta, confirming an alarming trend of steadily increasing domestic assaults and attempted femicides.
In the early hours of the morning, in Casal di Principe, a family argument escalated into a nightmare, culminating in gunshots ringing out inside a home.
A now sadly notorious context, that of the Land of Fires, where social and family hardship is increasingly intertwined with episodes of extreme violence.
The fight and the gunshots: tragedy narrowly avoided
According to the Carabinieri's reconstruction, a 57-year-old local man, during a heated argument with his wife, allegedly grabbed an illegally held 9mm pistol and fired three shots inside the apartment. The bullets struck a television, narrowly avoiding more serious injuries.
Only by chance did the woman not get injured. Having managed to escape and save herself, she immediately raised the alarm by contacting 112.
The intervention of the Carabinieri and the arrest
Officers from the Casal di Principe station, supported by the company's Operations and Radiomobile Unit, responded promptly to the scene. After fleeing in his car, the man spontaneously returned to the station shortly thereafter, accompanied by his lawyer.
During the search of the home, the Carabinieri found 28 bullets of the same caliber, stored inside a small box. The weapon used to fire the shot has not yet been recovered.
The man was arrested on charges of attempted femicide and, by order of the judicial authorities, transferred to the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison.
Gender-based violence: a dramatically growing phenomenon
The Casal di Principe incident is not an isolated one. It's yet another sign of a structural emergency: violence against women continues to rise, often occurring within the home, in a seemingly normal environment that can quickly turn tragic.

The situation in Casal di Principe is truly worrying, and I'm convinced that more attention is needed to address this issue. It's unacceptable that women have to live in fear inside their homes. We need more support.
