Casoria– The sound of bullets whizzing between buildings, blood on the asphalt, and a stern silence broken only by sirens. A little over a year after that fiery afternoon that nearly turned into a double homicide, things have come full circle.
At dawn today, officers from the Naples Flying Squad and the SISCO (Central Operations Investigation Section) served a precautionary detention order on a man believed to be the armed wing of Casoria's new mafia organization.
The suspect, considered a key figure in the mosaic of "veterans" attempting to reorganize their ranks after the raids that decapitated the historic Moccia clan, is charged with attempted murder and illegal possession and carrying of firearms. These are extremely serious crimes, aggravated by the mafia method.
The Wild West in the heart of Casoria: a hail of bullets in November
It all began on a gray day in November 2024. Two individuals were targeted by hitmen, "guilty" of being on the wrong side of the fence in an increasingly fragmented Casoria. According to the reconstruction of the investigators, coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, the arrested man didn't act alone: together with other accomplices (still being identified), he set up a veritable ambush.
The killers fired a barrage of shots, aiming for vital parts. The victims were hit by the bullets, but fate—or perhaps the assassins' haste—decided otherwise: despite serious wounds to critical areas of their bodies, they managed to survive. That day, however, the message had been sent: Casoria doesn't have room for everyone.
The Moccia Legacy and the War for the "Piazze"
Today's arrest is not an isolated incident, but rather fits into the turbulent post-Moccia landscape. For decades, Casoria was the impregnable stronghold of one of Italy's most powerful and sophisticated criminal organizations. With the dismantling of its top leadership and the introduction of the 41-bis regime for historic bosses, the area has become a playground for so-called "veterans" and small emerging groups attempting to climb the ranks.
The motive for the November 2024 attempted murder is clear: control of drug trafficking. SISCO's investigations revealed a violent conflict between two rival factions vying for every inch of pavement for drug dealing. A "molecular" war, waged through assaults and ambushes, where control of drug flows is the only way to replenish the clans' coffers and maintain territorial power.
The circle closes: the tests
Thanks to technical investigations, wiretaps, and analysis of video surveillance footage, the State Police was able to identify one of the perpetrators.

It's sad to see how the situation in Casoria has become so dire. Bullets and blood shouldn't be a part of anyone's daily life. I hope law enforcement can do something to stop this violence.
