Castel Volturno – An afternoon of ordinary madness turned into a high-speed chase along the Via Domiziana. A 45-year-old man of Nigerian origins got into trouble after forcing a Carabinieri checkpoint, sparking panic along the road at kilometer marker 30+800.

The failure to stop and the pursuit

It all began yesterday afternoon, when officers from the Mondragone Territorial Unit's mobile radio unit ordered a passing vehicle to stop. Instead of pulling over, the driver pressed the accelerator and continued driving at high speed in an attempt to disappear.

A brief but frantic chase ensued, ending only when the Carabinieri's patrol cars managed to block the fugitive's path.

Resistance and aggression against the military

Once the car was blocked, the 45-year-old refused to give up. He abandoned the car and attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly caught by the Carabinieri. At that point, the man reacted violently, attempting to kick and punch the officers in a desperate attempt to avoid identification. His resistance was in vain, as the Carabinieri officers managed to subdue him and take him to the barracks.

An “outlaw” vehicle

Subsequent investigations revealed a picture of total illegality. The man had no driving license, a document he had never obtained. The vehicle's condition was no better: it was found to be uninsured and not in compliance with its mandatory periodic inspection.

The legal consequences

The 45-year-old, who was also found to be illegally residing in Italy, was charged at large with resisting a public official and illegal entry and residence in Italy. In addition to the criminal charges, he was also subject to heavy administrative fines for violations of the Highway Code. The vehicle was seized and towed away by a licensed company.
