Castel Volturno – Carabinieri raided Castel Volturno, in the La Piana area, on the morning of February 13, 2026. Officers from the Santa Maria Capua Vetere Company identified a state-owned area of approximately 2.000 square meters transformed into a veritable open-air landfill, with dozens of abandoned car carcasses in visibly degraded condition.
Carcasses of stolen cars among the wreckage
During the checks, they found numerous cars reduced to scrap, many of which lacked license plates or any other information useful for immediate identification. Despite this, the officers were able to locate parts linked to two stolen vehicles, reported in recent weeks.
Specifically, a portion of a Mercedes-Benz vehicle was recovered, which was found stolen on December 12th at the Pozzuoli Carabinieri Station. Additionally, part of a vehicle was identified whose chassis matched a car reported stolen on January 27th.
Asbestos and hazardous waste
In the same context, the Carabinieri also seized hazardous waste, including approximately 100 sheets of asbestos, a material highly harmful to health and the environment, further exacerbating the situation.
The area has been seized and handed over to the Local Police.
The entire area has been seized and placed in the custody of the acting Commander of the Castel Volturno Local Police. Further investigations are underway by the military to identify those responsible for the illegal disposal and storage activities, also assessing possible unauthorized management of the land.
The operation was reported to the Judicial Authority, which initiated the appropriate investigations. The Carabinieri's intervention confirms the force's ongoing commitment to combating environmental crimes and recovering illegally acquired vehicles, protecting the environment and the community.

I read about the Carabinieri operation in Castel Volturno, and it seems like there's a lot to do regarding hazardous waste disposal. It's worrying to see stolen cars being abandoned, and asbestos is never a good thing.
