Castel Volturno – A cry of alarm is sounding, pointing directly to environmental crimes and the mismanagement of public resources. This is the message from some residents of Bagnara, on the Castel Volturno coast, who are denouncing the area's neglect, coastal erosion, and the neighborhood's alleged exclusion from conservation and redevelopment projects.
According to reports, the funds allocated for Bagnara were allocated to other areas of the city, leaving the town in a state of degradation and environmental vulnerability.
Disappearing dunes and waste: the front line of the environmental emergency
At the heart of the complaint is the disappearance of Bagnara's coastal dunes, once a natural barrier against marine erosion. Today, residents claim, they are left with piles of rubbish, half-destroyed homes, and a state-owned area that poses a serious threat to public safety.
The "before and after" images shared by residents appear to show a radical change in the landscape: the receding coastline, the damaged vegetation, and the advancing sea. This situation, in addition to the environmental damage, raises questions about the hydrogeological risk and the safety of those who frequent the area.
“There is no development without environmental protection,” is the message accompanying the complaint.
The “ghost project” and requests for clarification
Also under scrutiny is a supposed coastal protection project that, according to residents, was either "buried" or never actually implemented. Clarification is being sought from the relevant authorities regarding the impact of coastal erosion and any liability for omissions or failure to act.
The request is clear: to verify whether there are any environmental damages or concrete threats to the territory and to ascertain any responsibilities in the management of the funds and planned interventions.
Political criticism: "Enough promises in exchange for votes."
There's no shortage of political flair. Residents speak of a "tired and hackneyed scenario," consisting of promises of jobs and development in exchange for electoral support. But, they argue, residents have now developed a greater civic awareness and are no longer willing to sacrifice the area's environmental future for temporary solutions.
“Whoever pollutes must pay,” is the line invoked, with a call for a “sound and fair” policy that applies the law without shortcuts.
The appeal to the mayor
The document also includes a direct reference to the mayor, urging him to act "in the right way and at the right time," avoiding hasty decisions. A Neapolitan proverb sums up the concept: "'A gatta pe' jì 'e pressa, facette 'e figlie cecate," meaning haste can lead to mistakes.
Finally, a warning against violent tones in public debate: the battle for environmental protection, citizens reiterate, must remain within the confines of civil debate.
The incident has brought renewed attention to the Domitian coastline and the environmental fragility of an area that has been battling illegal construction, illegal dumping, and coastal degradation for years. Now, residents are demanding concrete answers: transparency regarding funding, urgent interventions, and a concrete plan to protect the Bagnara coast.

Reading the article, it seems to me that the residents of Bagnara are right to complain about the environmental situation. It's important that the authorities address these issues and determine whether there is any responsibility for the management of the funds.
