Naples – The Carabinieri continue to enforce tight controls in the troubled heart of the northern suburbs. In Scampia, where widespread crime and drug dealing are a daily scourge, officers from the Napoli Stella Company conducted a targeted operation that led to the seizure of 272 pre-packaged and ready-for-sale narcotics.
Carpet checks
The operation—coordinated to combat urban decay and predatory crime—involved the identification of 104 individuals, the inspection of 42 vehicles, and the issuance of 12 traffic fines totaling approximately €20.000. Four vehicles were seized for serious violations. The operation was particularly effective at night, when the neighborhood streets transform into veritable open-air drug dealing centers.
Via Fellini and Via Ortese: the heart of illegal business.
The focus of the operation was on the areas of Via Fellini and Via Anna Maria Ortese, known for intense drug dealing activity. The Carabinieri searched courtyards, entrance halls, and balconies of the buildings, focusing especially on the area of the historic Chalet Bakù, one of the hottest drug dealing hotspots in Scampia, contested by criminal gangs for years.
The hiding place in the elevators: 272 hidden doses
The most significant discovery came from the cavities created inside the elevators: here, the police found and seized 272 doses of various narcotics ready for sale. The drugs included hashish, marijuana, crack, cocaine, and kobret (the well-known synthetic variant widely used in Neapolitan squares). The "mobile" stash in the elevators allowed dealers to quickly move their merchandise, avoiding security checks, and to supply customers in real time.
The operation confirms the ongoing commitment of law enforcement in the neighborhood, which has been the scene of several raids in recent months (including major operations resulting in dozens of arrests and seizures of kilos of drugs). Yet, despite the results, Scampia remains a highly criminal area, with drug dealing hubs that quickly resurface after each intervention. Carabinieri officers from the Stella Company continue extensive patrols, often supported by canine units, to dismantle the networks and logistics of widespread drug dealing.

I think the operation is useful, but it doesn't solve the problem. The controls are always temporary; drug dealing centers are resurgent. The Carabinieri found 272 doses in elevators, but after a short while, everything went back to normal. We need social policies, jobs, and building maintenance; more prevention and fewer fines.
