Edmondo Cirielli will no longer sit on the Campania Regional Council. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the Meloni government announced his resignation at the opening of the assembly session, citing "a clear incompatibility" between his regional mandate and his dual role as MP and member of the national executive.
"The Regional Council has done a proper job in compliance with the law," Cirielli stated, "and the incompatibility is objective. For this reason, I am announcing my resignation as regional councilor and opting for parliamentary office and government office."
The Deputy Minister's "painful" choice
Cirielli did not hide the emotional weight of the decision. "I make this choice with some pain," he confessed, "because I ran for president of the Campania Region with great pride and honor, and because I love my region." The deputy minister, however, justified his preference for Rome by citing the sensitive international context: "I decided to opt not only for my role as a parliamentarian, but also for the government role I hold in a complex international situation."
He then assured that he will continue to work for Campania, extending his best wishes to the opposition—"well-structured, made up of people with experience and competence"—and to the President of the Regional Council, Roberto Fico: "Campania is going through a difficult time, and President Meloni will certainly do everything necessary to ensure the government's support for our region."
Greetings from the assembly: Fico and Manfredi thank you
Cirielli's remarks were met with a warm response from the assembly's highest officials. Regional President Roberto Fico thanked "the deputy minister and opposition leader for the work they have done together over these two months at the institutional level, a valuable achievement for Campania."
Regional Council President Massimiliano Manfredi also praised "the valuable institutional synergy that has given our institution a strong start." During the same session, Giovanni Porcelli was elected Finance Police Chief.

Cirielli's situation is very complicated, as he must choose between two important positions. I hope this decision will lead to an improvement for Campania, even though there are many unknowns to consider.
