Not just rubble and homes to rebuild, but also internal wounds that demand time and attention. In Casoria, after the collapse on Via Cavour on January 23rd, a phase of psychological support began for residents forced to leave their homes.
The meetings are taking place at the Municipal Library, where the first individual sessions have already begun. Six people, initially treated individually, will now be involved in group sessions designed to help them process their traumatic experiences together. The service was activated by the ASL Napoli 2 Nord through the Emergency Psychology Operations Network, at the instigation of the company's strategic management, with the aim of ensuring continuity of care even after the most acute phase of the emergency.
The intervention, the health authority explains, aims to intercept and contain the emotional reactions that can emerge days or weeks after sudden and destabilizing events. This model has already been tested in the past during the bradyseism in the Phlegraean Fields, when psychological support proved crucial for supporting the families involved and preventing the onset of post-traumatic stress disorder.
Initial conversations with the displaced reveal a widespread sense of anguish, linked not only to the material loss of their homes but also to the symbolic value of home as a place of safety and remembrance. Parents also express strong concern for the emotional well-being of their children, who are often more silent but deeply affected by the event.
Specialists will continue to support those involved with a medium- and long-term approach, ready to intensify support should more fragile situations emerge. The goal is to guide families through a gradual recovery, offering a space for listening and sharing, capable of transforming the trauma into a process of internal reconstruction.
Casoria's housing crisis continues. Following the collapse of the building on Via Cavour, new signs of structural instability have forced the evacuation of two other buildings on Corso Umberto I, forcing dozens of people from their homes. The situation was the focus of an update meeting at the Prefecture of Naples, attended by Mayor Raffaele Bene, Regional Councilor for Civil Protection Fiorella Zabatta, and representatives of the fire department, law enforcement, Civil Protection, and the Naples 2 North Local Health Authority.
The mayor explained that some of the evacuated families have been relocated to the same hotels already designated for the displaced people on Via Cavour. Meanwhile, firefighters are preparing to intervene in the collapsed building to remove the unsafe elements still hanging. This delicate operation, if it goes as planned, could allow several residents from the surrounding areas to finally return to their homes.
Following the collapse that affected some areas of Casoria, the Campania Region is taking extraordinary measures to ensure the safety of residents and protect evacuated homes. Leading the operation is Regional Councilor for Civil Protection Fiorella Zabatta, who emphasized the urgency of preventing looting that would harm affected families.
"In an emergency situation like the one affecting Casoria, the absolute priority is the protection of people and their homes," Zabatta stated. The Region has deployed a constant presence of regional Civil Protection volunteers in the affected areas, to support residents and in collaboration with the competent authorities. The volunteers are responsible for monitoring, reporting any illegal behavior, and helping to maintain order and security.
CASORIA – The emergency is not over, and in Casoria the number of families forced to leave their homes after the collapse of a building in recent days is growing. Further technical checks conducted this morning by the Fire Department have led to further precautionary evacuations, necessitating further intervention to assist the displaced.
Regional Civil Protection Councilor Fiorella Zabatta contacted Mayor Raffaele Bene to assess the situation and coordinate support measures. "The Campania Region stands with the residents of Casoria and the municipal administration. The necessary funds to provide hotel accommodations for the displaced have already been added in recent days," she stated.
