Naples – A property seized from organized crime is being brought back to life as a driver of the neighborhood's future. The "Ostello della Cultura – Social Z Lab Home," the new multipurpose center located at Via II Traversa Divisione Siena, 16, officially opened its doors this morning. It was returned to the community after being confiscated from the Camorra.
A garrison of legality and opportunity
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Councilor for Legal Affairs of the City of Naples, Antonio De Iesu, along with representatives of the Amira social cooperative, which will manage the facility, and numerous local associations. The space will not only be a meeting place, but a true hub of opportunities designed for younger generations and the most vulnerable segments of the population.
The building, already operational, houses social innovation laboratories, study rooms, and programs specifically dedicated to the empowerment of young women, with the aim of combating school dropout and social marginalization.
De Iesu: "Education and participation reign here now."
"Today we're not just inaugurating a building, we're restoring dignity and a future to a part of our region," said Councilor Antonio De Iesu during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. "Transforming a confiscated property into a 'Culture Hostel' sends an unmistakable message: where lawlessness once reigned, there is now education, study, and participation.
This space, passionately managed by the Amira cooperative, will become a point of reference for young people and women in the neighborhood, demonstrating that legality is not an abstract concept, but is built by offering concrete opportunities for social and cultural redemption.
A model of collaboration for the future of the city
The Social Z Lab Home project embodies a virtuous model of collaboration between institutions and the third sector. By entrusting the property to a cooperative, the municipal administration transforms a previously "unavailable" asset into a true social capital, capable of generating value and cohesion.
The opening of the Culture Hostel is part of a broader plan to revitalize confiscated assets promoted by the City of Naples, an ambitious project aimed at creating a widespread network of law enforcement centers in every neighborhood of the city, writing a new chapter in urban and social redemption.
